ISLAMABAD – Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan has said that local bodies election have been postponed in Punjab and Sindh.
Talking to newsmen on Wednesday, Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan said that the Election Commission has proposed January 30, 2014 for holding Local Bodies elections in Punjab and January 18 in Sindh.
He said that the elections in Federal Capital and Cantonment Boards would be held in February.
Ishtaq added that the Local Bodies elections in Balochistan would be held on December 7 as per old schedule.
He said that the candidates would have to file nomination papers again however, the nomination papers fees submitted so far would remain valid for the new schedule.
Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan has clarified that all candidates will have to re-submit their nomination papers for the local bodies  elections under the new schedule to be issued by the Commission.
Talking to newsmen in Islamabad on Wednesday evening‚ he‚ however‚ said those who have deposited fee will not be required to pay the fee again.
The Secretary said new nomination forms will replace the old ones.
He said the Commission has convened a meeting on 19th of this month to prepare the next plan of action following postponement of polls in Punjab and Sindh to new dates.
It will be attended by representatives of the provincial governments‚ Ministries of Interior‚ Defence and Law; Printing Corporation of Pakistan and NADRA.
Giving background of postponement‚ he said Sindh and Punjab were not prepared to hold local government elections but Balochistan had already completed all the steps.
The electoral process is proceeding ahead smoothly in Balochistan and elections would be held on 7th of next month.
He said local elections in Sindh would be held on 18th of January and in Punjab on 30th of January next year.
He said a new schedule would be issued by the Commission.
