ISLAMABAD  - Election Commission of Pakistan has stated that local bodies’ elections in Sindh will be held on December 7.
The ECP sources on Monday said that the decision has been taken in the light of the ruling of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to Sindh Local Government Act 2013, the local bodies election in Sindh would be held on party basis while the members would be elected for four years.
The number of members for each union council would be nine while 22 % seats would be reserved for women 5% for labourers and 5% for minorities.
Earlier, The ECP had decided to hold the LB polls on November 27 while the Sindh government pleaded in the court that it was difficult to hold local bodies elections in the province on 27th of this month due to Muharram holidays.
The court said local bodies’ elections would be held on 7th of next month in Balochistan and Punjab provinces and if ECP considers feasible‚ it can extend the date for Sindh province till 7th December.
The court said holding local bodies elections was constitutional responsibility of provincial governments.
