KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement’s Coordination Committee pleaded with Sindh government and Election Commission for two-day extension in date of submission of nomination papers for Local Bodies elections in Sindh, SAMAA reported Tuesday.

The MQM’s Rabta Committee asserts that thousands of candidates could not file their candidature owing to lack of appropriate arrangements, adding some Returning Officers (ROs) said that the papers could not be accepted as new schedule is about to be issued from Election Commission and that date for arrangements is being pushed ahead.

The committee noted if the uncertainty regarding the new schedule and extension in date of LB polls persists, thousands of candidates will stand deprived of their fundamental right of taking part in the elections.

It should be mentioned here that November 11 and 12 were specified for the submission of papers; however, thousands of candidates could not submit their nominations after the lapse of one day.

Rabita Committee demanded the government and Election Commission to allow two more days for the filing of nomination papers to make local governments elections independent, transparent and outright democratic
