KARACHI: Deployment of army in sensitive towns of Sindh begun Tuesday as part of security measures for mourning processions which are taken out during 9th and 10th Muharram across the country, SAMAA reported.

The Sindh government had formally requested for military deployment in various sensitive cities, including Karachi.

Army troops have started moving from Sindh’s Pano Aqil cantonment to Sindh interior cities and from Malir cantt. to different areas of Karachi, officials said.

As part of Muharram security plan, the Sindh government has banned pillion-riding on the motorbike for 9th and 10th Muharram in Karachi.

More than 25,000 security personnel of police and Rangers would also be deployed across Karachi to play a primary role in the security plan.

Over 5000 majalis and more than 750 mourning processions would be held across the city during Muharram.
