ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that those who have sacrificed their lives in fight against terrorism are ‘martyrs,’ SAMAA reports.

Addressing army officers at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, PM Sharif eulogized the services of the Pakistan Army for the country, adding that army has always remained in forefront to meet challenges whether in peace or war time.

He said that the whole nation respects and acknowledges the services of the Pakistan Army.

PM Sharif asserted that those who have sacrificed their ‘today’ for nation’s ‘tomorrow’ are ‘Ghazi or Shaheed.’

PM statement is significant in the context of ongoing debate in the country following Jamaat-e-Islami chief’s controversial remarks about who is martyred and who is not.

Earlier, prime minister arrived at GHQ where the army top brass briefed him over issues related to the national security.

The premier was accorded guard of honour by smartly turned contingent of Pakistan Army on his arrival at the GHQ where he laid floral wreath on the monument of martyrs alongside outgoing army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

It was his first visit to the military headquarters after 14 years and assuming the office of Prime Minister in June this year.
