ISLAMABAD  - The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an application filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan to postpone local bodies' elections for three or four months.
The apex court ruled that all petitions regarding local bodies election had already been disposed off on November 5, and declared the current petition as non-maintainable.
The polls are scheduled for November 27 in Sindh and December 7 in Punjab and Balochistan – the dates provided as options to the ECP by the Supreme Court.

The commission, in its petition, had prayed that holding credible elections were not possible on the schedule it announced earlier.
The ECP said that since the printing of ballot papers was impossible within the short time and rules and regulations prepared by the provinces had flaws, therefore, the holding of local body polls was not possible.
The commission had also told court that Punjab and Sindh provinces had not finalised the delimitations as yet.
