RAWALPINDI - Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed said there was a deep conspiracy behind this unfortunate incidence, adding that no local person was involved in the incident.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he blamed administration’s incompetence and negligence for the violence, which killed 10 people and left scores of others wounded. Sheikh also called for a judicial probe into Friday’s sectarian violence in Rawalpindi.
He urged the ruling party to consider Rawalpindi its own city and come forward to restore calm in the garrison city.
No such incident even happened in a 100-year history of Rawalpindi, he said, adding that market was set on fire from behind. The AML chief said that those involved in the violence were not locals.
On Friday, the clashes between two rival groups started when aerial firing triggered a stampede when Ashura procession was passing through Fawara Chowk.
Some unidentified persons pelted stones and also torched a cloth market nearby. The angry mob also stopped fire brigade vehicles to reach the spot. The fire engulfed more than 100 shops in cloth market while operation was underway to control it.
