RAWALPINDI - Government has finally decided to lift the 
curfew from violence-hit Rawalpindi on Monday morning. According to 
sources, the curfew was lifted at 6am on Monday until further orders.<br />

According to sources, troops will continue to be deployed in  main 
squares and streets to maintain law and order situation. The the sources
 further informed that ban on congregations and public gatherings under 
Section 144 will remain in place.<br />

Earlier, the authorities relaxed curfew from 7.30 pm on Sunday to 
twelve midnight to allow residents to buy eatables and other household 
items.</div>

BEIRUT (AP) - Thousands of <span class="adtext" id="adtext_7">refugees</span> are fleeing border towns in central Syria where a high-<span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">stakes</span> battle is <span class="adtext" id="adtext_5">raging</span>, crossing valleys and ridges to reach safety in neighboring Lebanon, witnesses and the U.N. said on Sunday.<br />

They packed into <span class="adtext" id="adtext_2">wedding halls</span>
 and drifted into makeshift shacks after escaping the steadily 
intensifying fighting battle that began on Friday, said Bassel Hojeiri, 
former mayor of the border town of Arsal where most of the refugees have
 headed.<br />

A Syrian government offensive in the rugged Qalamoun hills, which 
stretch from Damascus to neighboring Lebanon, seeks to cut rebel <span class="adtext" id="adtext_3">supply lines</span> to opposition-held enclaves around the capital.<br />

Activists and analysts say the battle may be the final blow that 
dislodges rebels from the Damascus periphery, where food is running 
short and opposition fighters have lost a series of strongholds in 
recent weeks to forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad.<br />

Former Mayor Hojeiri estimated some 10,000 people had fled to Arsal, 
saying an influx of Syrians during the past three years of conflict in 
that country had caused the population to nearly double.<br />

Dana Sleiman of the <span class="adtext" id="adtext_4">United Nations</span> High Commission for Refugees put the total number of refugee arrivals <span class="adtext" id="adtext_1">over the weekend</span>
 at around 1,000 families. She said many had not registered yet with the
 U.N. and so they could not provide more definite numbers.<br />

The UNHCR s Sleiman said refugees weren t able to reach an official border <span class="adtext" id="adtext_8">crossing</span>
 because of the fighting, which began on Friday. Some families were in 
such a hurry that they could not collect any belongings before they 
fled, arriving "without anything except the clothes on their backs," she
 said.<br />

The U.N. was distributing blankets, mattresses, food, nappies and 
hygiene kits to the refugees. She said some were settling into tin shack
 slums that dot the eastern Lebanon Bekaa Valley, and they were being 
offered thick plastic to reinforce their feeble homes against the cold.<br />

Syrian refugees have overwhelmed Lebanon since the uprising began 
three years ago. Lebanese officials estimate there are 1.4 million 
Syrians in the country, including 800,000 registered refugees.<br />

The battle for Qalamoun has been expected for weeks, both government 
and opposition reinforcing their positions in the sector ahead of 
winter, when much of the area is covered with snow.<br />

Activists say one of the main sites of the battle is around the town 
of Qara, which lies near a main highway leading from Damascus to the 
central town of Homs. Controlling the region thus makes it easier to 
assert control over movement down the length of Syria.<br />

On Sunday, two pro-rebel activist groups and the British-based Syrian
 Observatory for Human Rights reported two airstrike hitting the town. 
They said highway was severed and regime forces had gathered on nearby 
hills, trying to cut supplies to rebels inside the city.<br />

Syria s pro-government media vowed the battle would be decisive.<br />

"The army is shaking al-Qalamoun Mountains and has tightened its 
siege around terrorists in Qara," read a front-page article in the 
al-Watan newspaper.<br />

Mortar fire meanwhile hit the center of Damascus, killing two, the Syrian official news agency SANA said.</div>

<span class="adtext" id="adtext_8">LOS ANGELES</span> (AFP) - A-list movie star <span class="adtext" id="adtext_5">Angelina Jolie</span> was awarded an honorary Oscar for her humanitarian work late Saturday at the Governors <span class="adtext" id="adtext_4">Awards ceremony</span> in Hollywood.<br />

Veteran actress Angela Lansbury, comedian <span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">Steve Martin</span>, and Italian costume designer Pietro Tosi also received awards at the annual ceremony organized by the <span class="adtext" id="adtext_1">Board of Governors</span> of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.<br />

Film royalty among the 600 guests included Tom Hanks, Jake 
Gyllenhaal, Diane Keaton, Emma Thompson, Harrison Ford, Amy Adams, 
Matthew McConaughey and George Lucas, as well as Jolie's fiancee Brad 
Pitt.<br />

"It was only when I began to travel that I understood my 
responsibility to others," Jolie, who has been involved in humanitarian 
work for years, told the audience.<br />

"When I met survivors of wars and famine, and rape, I learned what 
life is like for most people in this world and how fortunate I was to 
have food to eat, a roof above my head, a safe <span class="adtext" id="adtext_2">place to live</span> and the joy of having my family safe and healthy," she said.<br />

"I realized how sheltered I had been and I was determined never to be that way again."<br />

Since 2012 Jolie has travelled on more than 40 missions around the 
world as a special envoy for the United Nations Refugee Agency.<br />

Jolie, 38, received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award -- a 
statuette identical to a "classic" Oscar -- from Lucas, the man behind 
the "<span class="adtext" id="adtext_7">Star Wars</span>" films.<br />

Jolie won an acting Oscar in 2000 for her supporting role in the movie "Girl, Interrupted."<br />

Lansbury, 88, the British-born actress known for her role as amateur 
detective and mystery writer Jessica Fletcher in the popular TV series 
"Murder, She Wrote," and comedian Martin received lifetime achievement

LAHORE – Eighty nine more people were tested dengue 
positive on Sunday, taking the number of confirmed cases in the province
 to 1,912. Out of 89 new cases, 70 were reported from Lahore.<br />

Meanwhile, the citizens have expressed their concern over the surge 
in dengue virus and treatment facilities at government-run hospitals 
across the province.<br />

They urged the provincial government and health authorities for 
taking on ground steps to control the disease instead of making tall 
claims and issuing statements to satisfy the masses.<br />

Dengue usually starts with fever within four to seven days of the 
mosquito bite. The patient would have flu-like high fever, accompanied 
by muscular and joint pains.<br />

According to the doctors, it is easy to differentiate between viral 
fever and dengue. In viral infection, the patient would have running 
nose, throat pain, mild body ache and weakness. In dengue, the patient 
would have high-grade fever, severe body ache, joint pains and rashes, 
which may turn pink within 24 to 48 hours of contracting fever. </div>

ISLAMABAD  - Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan has said
 that Rawalpindi situation is improving gradually after the unfortunate 
incident occurred on Friday.<br />

Addressing a news conference here on Sunday‚ Nisar said curfew will 
be relaxed from 7.30 pm tonight to twelve midnight. He said negotiations
 were held with Ulema of all schools of thought, adding that Ulema 
demonstrated their prudence.<br />

Fighting erupted on Friday in the garrison-city, which neighbours the
 capital Islamabad, when a procession by Shiite Muslims to mark the most
 important day of the mourning month of Muharram coincided with a sermon
 at a nearby Sunni mosque.<br />

The groups attacked each other, TV cameramen and security forces, firing gunshots.<br />

Rawalpindi has been under nearly complete curfew since the incident, 
which saw a large number of troops deployed there as well as in the 
southern city of Multan and Chishtian town to keep the peace.<br />

Judge Mamoon Al-Rasheed of the Lahore High Court will head the probe, a court official said.<br />

Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif, who is the chief minister of the Punjab 
province where the violence occurred, held talks with religious scholars
 in Rawalpindi and discussed compensation for the families of those 
killed, state television reported.</div>

PESHAWAR (AFP) - Right-wing Pakistani political parties on Sunday
 postponed a scheduled blockade of NATO supply lines meant to protest 
the killing of the Taliban chief, citing recent sectarian clashes.<br />

Pakistan reacted angrily earlier this month to a US drone attack that
 killed Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud, saying the strike had
 sabotaged peace talks with the insurgents.<br />

Former cricketer Imran Khan, head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf 
(PTI) party, called for a blockade of NATO convoys to Afghanistan to 
force the US to abandon its drone programme.<br />

Khan had set a November 20 deadline for the halting of drone strikes 
and threatened to block supply trucks in northwestern Khyber 
Pakhtunkhwa, where his party leads a coalition government. He announced 
via Twitter on Sunday the protest would now be held on November 23.<br />

Shabeer Ahmad Khan, a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), the country s 
main religious party, earlier announced the postponement at a joint 
press conference with the PTI and smaller parties.<br />

Shabeer said that sectarian clashes that occurred in Rawalpindi on Friday were the reason for the delay.<br />

"Drone strikes are attacks on the sovereignty of Pakistan and to protect it some practical steps have to be taken," he added.<br />

Clashes between the country s majority Sunnis and minority Shiites 
saw nine killed and 60 injured in Rawalpindi, a garrison city that 
borders the capital Islamabad, with the violence rippling out to the 
country s south.<br />

It is not clear how Imran Khan would carry out his threat of  
blockade as authority over highways lies with the federal government.<br />

Islamabad condemns drone strikes as a violation of sovereignty, and 
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urged President Barack Obama to end them 
during recent White House talks.<br />

But analysts say Sharif s ability to issue demands to Washington are 
constrained by the fact the US last month agreed to release around $1.6 
billion in aid.<br />

In addition, Pakistan has just embarked on a new $6.7 billion 
International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan package with support from 
Washington.<br />

Mehsud s death was the third major blow struck against the Pakistani 
Taliban by the US this year, following the killing of number two Waliur 
Rehman in a drone strike in May and the capture of another senior 
lieutenant in Afghanistan last month.<br />

The group has named hardline cleric Maulana Fazlullah its new leader.<br />

He is known for leading the Taliban s bloody two-year rule in Swat 
Valley and for ordering the shooting of schoolgirl activist Malala

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan announced Sunday it would put former 
military ruler General Pervez Musharraf on trial for treason, punishable
 by death or life imprisonment, for imposing emergency rule in 2007.<br />

"Following the judgement of the Supreme Court and a report submitted 
by an inquiry committee, it has been decided to start proceedings 
against General Pervez Musharraf (for treason) under Article 6 of the 
Constitution," Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told a press 
conference televised live.<br />

"It is happening for the first time in the history of Pakistan and 
the decision has been taken in the national interest," Khan said.<br />

The minister said the country s Chief Justice would Monday receive a 
letter from the government requesting the setting-up of a tribunal of 
three high court judges to start proceedings against Musharraf.<br />

The government would also announce a special prosecutor on Monday.<br />

Musharraf is already facing four major criminal cases dating back to 
his 1999-2008 rule, including one related to the assassination of former
 prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007.<br />

Last week he asked a court to let him leave the country to visit his 
sick mother in Dubai. The court was expected to rule on the application 
on Monday.<br />

There have been rumours in recent months that a deal would be reached
 for Musharraf to leave Pakistan without going through with his trials.<br />

Khan said that three thrice-elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif s 
government had come to power five months ago and it had never 
demonstrated any "revengeful" gesture towards General Musharraf.<br />

Musharraf overthrew the Sharif government in a bloodless military 
coup in October 1999, but a year later the Supreme Court validated the 
take over.<br />

In November 2007 Musharraf imposed emergency rule, suspending the 
constitution and parliament and sacking top judges who declared his 
actions unconstitutional and illegal.<br />

Musharraf technically became a free man this month when an Islamabad 
district court granted him bail over a deadly raid on a radical mosque 
in the capital in 2007.<br />

His return to Pakistan in March was far from the triumphant occasion he had hoped for.<br />

He was barred from contesting the general election, which was won 
convincingly by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif -- the man he ousted from 
power in 1999 -- and was hit with a series of criminal cases dating back
 to his rule.<br />

Apart from the mosque raid, he faces charges over Bhutto s murder at 
an election rally in 2007, the death of a Baluch rebel leader in 2006 
and the detention of judges in 2007.<br />

He was put under house arrest in April, an unprecedented move against
 a former army chief in a country where the military holds huge power.</div>

Residents are now facing a shortage of food, as the curfew was lifted
 for only three hours late on Saturday when no shops were open.<br />

"All shops, bakeries and restaurants are closed, the roads are 
deserted and I am running out of food and other essential items now," 
Shafiq Ahmed, a resident of the Satellite Town district told AFP.<br />

"Last night the curfew break was announced abruptly and only a few 
people came out of their homes, but they found closed markets and 
returned empty handed," he added.<br />

Mohammad Shehzad, another resident, said that he bought food every 
Sunday, but because of the curfew everything was shut and he was 
prevented by police and troops from going out.<br />

Pakistan is rife with sectarian clashes, with Sunni militant groups 
linked to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban often attacking gatherings by 
Shiites, who constitute some 20 percent of the country s overwhelmingly 
Muslim population.<br />

Pakistan had deployed heavy security all across the country for 10th 
of Muharram on Friday -- which is the death anniversary of Hussein, the 
grandson of the Prophet Mohammed -- to avert any terrorist attack on the
 mourning processions of Shiites.<br />

The Islamic month of Muharram lasts until December 5 this year and is a particularly fraught time.<br />

Hussein was killed by the armies of the caliph Yazid in 680 AD and 
his death in Karbala in Iraq is mourned across the world by Shiites

RAWALPINDI - Authorities have extended the curfew for 
another 24 hours in Rawalpindi in the wake of sectarian tension.<br />

According to reports, administration fears that violence could erupt 
again after the killing of 10 people during Friday's clash at Raja 
Bazaar.<br />

The Punjab provincial government imposed curfew in different parts of
 Rawalpindi including Potohar Town, Rawal Town, Raja bazar, Cantonment 
areas after violent clashes between two groups and the curfew will 
remain in place unless the situation is improved, an official said.<br />

Meanwhile, Punjab government has set up a five-member committee to 
probe the violent clashes. Law Minsiter Rana Sanaullah will head the 
committee comprising Chief Secretary, Commissioner Rawalpindi, Interior 
Secretary and IG Punjab. The committee will investigate the matter and 
present its report to the chief minister within three days.<br />

Tension is still prevailing in the different areas of the city while 
people are also being forced to stay indoors to avoid any untoward 
incident. The law enforcement agencies have also arrested eight 
suspected persons on Saturday in various areas of the city.<br />

The clashes between the two groups erupted when a mourners’ 
procession of Muharram 10 was on its way through Fawara Chowk in the 
town. A group of miscreants at 3:00pm reportedly snatched guns from 
police personnel deputed for security, and opened fire, sources said.<br />

The panic spread and the unknown miscreants set a portion of the 
cloth market in Raja Bazar on fire. The situation soon got out of hand 
and sensing the gravity of the situation, Chief Commissioner Rawalpindi 
and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab had requested the 
authorities to impose a curfew.<br />

A large number of army troops and Rawalpindi police personnel were 
patrolling in the various areas of the city. Aerial surveillance of the 
city was also conducted and helicopters kept flying over the city on 
Saturday.<br />

The law enforcement agencies also placed shipping containers at 
Faizabad and blocked Murree Road while security has been tightened at 
all worship places of the city. Emergency has also been declared in all 
hospitals and mobile phone service was suspended as a security measure.<br />

Taking notice of the incident, Chief Minister of Punjab, Mian Shahbaz
 Sharif directed police to arrest the culprits involved in the incident 
and assured judicial probe into the incident will be done.<br />

According to a Punjab government spokesperson, the curfew was imposed
 to bring the situation under control following the deadly clashes and 
the subsequent unrest, which is feared to spark off more untoward 
incidents to the peril of local residents.</div>

triggered by a short-lived storm have killed at least 31 people and cut 
off traffic in several areas in central Vietnam over the last three 
days, forcing authorities to evacuate <span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">tens</span> of thousands of people.<br />

Most of the deaths were due to drowning, as <span class="adtext" id="adtext_5">water levels</span>
 rose to nearly three meters in some villages. The government said 
Saturday that floods had killed 13 people in Binh Dinh, seven in Quang 
Ngai and two each in <span class="adtext" id="adtext_3">Phu Yen</span>, Quang Nam and Gia Lai provinces.<br />

“Water is everywhere,” said Le Cong Dung, an official with the storm 
department in Quang Nam, where the tourist resort town of Hoi An has 
reported <span class="adtext" id="adtext_1">flood water</span> of up to 0.67 meters deep.<br />

Around 1,400 people, including foreign tourists, have been evacuated 
from that area, the government said earlier Saturday, adding that 
authorities have evacuated more than 17,600 people from flood-prone 
areas in five central provinces.<br />

Floods have also inundated tens of thousands of houses and isolated several areas, the government said in a statement.<br />

The storm, named Podul as it approached the coastline of south central Vietnam <span class="adtext" id="adtext_4">Thursday night</span>, weakened to a <span class="adtext" id="adtext_2">tropical depression</span>
 before making landfall. It triggered heavy rains in Quang Nam, Quang 
Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces, with rainfall ranging 
between 100 millimeters and 300 millimeters, according to the

day after a senior U.S. official said it was possible a deal could be 
reached when negotiators meet in Geneva from Nov. 20.<br /><br />Six nations negotiating with Iran hope the talks can produce an agreement that would be the <span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">first step</span>
 towards a comprehensive deal to end a decade-long standoff with Tehran 
and provide assurances it will not build nuclear weapons.<br /><br />"Our common impression is that there is a very good chance that must not be passed up," Lavrov said of a recent discussion with <span class="adtext" id="adtext_5">European Union</span> foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, when asked whether the Geneva talks could be successful.<br /><br />"The steps that must be taken to defuse the situation and create conditions for a final resolution of the <span class="adtext" id="adtext_4">Iranian nuclear</span> problem are clear to both the six nations and Iran," he said in the interview with Moscow-based TV Tsentr.<br /><br />"It is a matter of putting this on paper correctly, accurately and in a mutually respectful way."<br /><br />Ashton
 represents the six global powers seeking to curb Iran's nuclear

 successor to Boeing's 777 jet, with some 250 orders booked or in the 
pipeline from four airlines, marks a new step in the growth of Gulf 
airlines and a fierce contest between Boeing and Airbus for their 
business.<br /><br />Boeing is expected to launch the 777X jet with orders 
from the top three Gulf carriers -- Dubai's Emirates, Abu Dhabi's Etihad
 Airways and <span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">Qatar Airways</span> -- and Germany's Lufthansa which has already tentatively committed to buy 34 of the planes.<br /><br />Gulf airlines have been expanding rapidly as they seek to take advantage of a strong geographical position connecting <span class="adtext" id="adtext_1">East and West</span>.<br /><br />A fifth, Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific, could join the programme later, industry experts said, while <span class="adtext" id="adtext_4">British Airways</span> has expressed interest in the jet.<br /><br />Boeing's
 top planemaking official pledged not to let a dispute with Seattle 
assembly workers over where the plane should be built interfere with its
 launch, which is expected to be announced on day one of the November

proposed contract that would have seen Boeing commit to keeping the

which has found no buyers this year and faces a cut in production unless

 eyes will be on Emirates which has frequently said it would add another
 30 aircraft to its existing order for 90 superjumbos once it resolves

 News reported the Emirates airline was talking to Airbus about a

 777X comes in two models including what will be the world's 
longest-distance passenger jet, a 350-seat model to be known as the 
777-8 once the aircraft has been launched.<br /><br />The larger 777-9 edition, carrying 406 people, will be the main version and be delivered starting 2020.<br /><br />Together,
 the modernized planes call for development of carbon-fibre wings that 
fold at the tips to fit in the same parking spaces and new engines from 
General Electric.<br /><br />Airbus says Boeing has packed in passengers 
densely to make the revamped aircraft's economics work against its own 
all-new 350-seat model, the A350-1000, due to enter service in 2017.<br /><br />It
 has launched a campaign for a minimum standard seat width of 18 inches 
on long trips, aiming to draw attention to what it says will be the 
777's narrower seats.<br /><br />Some airlines have told Airbus that this is their decision and Boeing says many Airbus jets have similar seats.<br /><br />A

goods transporters with no room left at the overpacked seaports for more
 containers. But, the transporters are outright unwilling to cease their

 demands of the transporters. However, the transporters asserted that

RAWALPINDI - Rawalpindi district administration has 
re-imposed curfew in Rawalpindi from 1:00am Sunday to 12:00midnight.<br />

Earlier, the authorities announced three-and-a-half-hour relaxation 
in curfew from 09:30pm on Saturday to 01:00am on Sunday to allow 
residents to buy eatables and other household items.<br />

The curfew was enforced in Rawalpindi for 24 hours on Friday midnight
 in Potohar Town, Rawal Town and Cantonment areas after clashes between 
two groups left nine people dead.<br />

A press not issued by DCO office said that nine people died and 50 
others sustained injuries in sectarian violence on Friday during which a
 ‘Madrisa’ and a cloth market were also torched.<br />

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi district administration has claimed that law and order situation in the city is under control.<br />

On the other hand, mobile phone service in Rawalpindi has been closed
 for an indefinite period. Mobile phone service in Islamabad has also 
been suspended which will reopen at 02:00pm today.</div>

WASHINGTON: What happened to the water on Mars and how did the Red Planet's atmosphere become so thin over time?<br />
<br />
NASA's MAVEN probe is scheduled to launch on Tuesday (AEDT) on a mission to find out.<br />
The unmanned spacecraft aims to orbit Mars from a <span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">high altitude</span>,
 studying its atmosphere for clues on how the sun may have influenced 
gas to escape from the possibly life-bearing planet billions of years 
ago.<br />
The probe is different from past NASA missions because it 
focuses not on the dry surface but on the mysteries of the never before 
studied upper atmosphere.<br />
"There's a <span class="adtext" id="adtext_8">puzzle piece</span>, I'll say, that's been missing with what's happening in that upper atmosphere," said David Mitchell, <span class="adtext" id="adtext_2">project manager</span> of the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) mission.<br />
"That is really what we are going after."<br />
NASA's Goddard Space <span class="adtext" id="adtext_5">Flight Center</span>
 in Maryland posted on its website an artist's video rendition of what 
Mars might have looked like in a long-gone era when its atmosphere was 
thick enough to support <span class="adtext" id="adtext_1">surface water</span>.<br />
The <span class="adtext" id="adtext_7">green lakes</span>
 and white clouds it depicts offer a stark contrast to the barren desert
 planet of today, coated in reddish-pink grit and dry except for traces 
of briny subsurface streams.<br />
Jim Green, director of the planetary 
science division at NASA headquarters said MAVEN, which cost $US671 
million ($A721.54 million), will reveal clues about what happened to 
make Mars' atmosphere too cold and thin to support water.<br />
The planet that neighbours earth "underwent a major climate change in its past," said Green.<br />
"MAVEN will tell us why Mars went through such dramatic atmospheric changes over the years."<br />
Much
 of its year-long mission will be spent circling the planet at a 
distance of 6000 kilometres above the surface, but it will execute five 
deep dips to a height of just 125km.<br />
The square spacecraft weighs 2453 kilograms and will launch aboard an Atlas V 401 rocket from <span class="adtext" id="adtext_4">Cape Canaveral</span> Air Force Station in Florida.<br />
The launch could happen as early as 1.28pm on Monday (0528 AEDT on Tuesday).<br />
The launch window stays open for two hours.<br />
Rainy
 weather has a 40 per cent chance of delaying the launch on Monday, and 
conditions deteriorate over the next two days, to 60 per cent chance of 
delay on Tuesday and 70 per cent on Wednesday, NASA weather officials 
said.<br />
If launch goes ahead as planned on Monday local time, the 2.5-metre cube with wing-like <span class="adtext" id="adtext_3">solar panels</span> will arrive in Martian orbit on September 22, 2014 after a journey of 10 months.<br />
That would be an arrival two days earlier than India's Mars probe, launched on November 5.<br />
MAVEN's science mission would begin in November 2014.<br />
The science goals of the two do not overlap much, Mitchell said.<br />
The
 Indian probe will be searching for methane which could prove the 
existence of some ancient life form, while the US probe seeks answers 
about the planet's climate change.<br />
"It is kind of a neat race and we wish them all the best," Mitchell told reporters.<br />
"Down the road, the scientists will be collaborating on what they find there."<br />
MAVEN
 is part of a series of rovers and probes that aim to return key data 
about Mars before a planned mission to send humans there as early as the

KARACHI:
 Twenty-nine more dengue viral fever cases were reported in Karachi from
 15th to16th November, increasing the patient toll 3,942 in 2013, said 
Dr M Shakeel Aamir Mullick Focal Person for Dengue Surveillance Cell 
Sindh on Saturday.<br />

<span class="adtext" id="adtext_3">He</span>
 said that a total of 4,528  dengue fever cases have been reported in 
Sindh province since January 2013, out of which 3,942 were detected in <span class="adtext" id="adtext_1">Karachi</span> and 586 in rest of Sindh province.<br />
He informed that 24 dengue fever patients died in Karachi, while two expired in Hyderabad this year so far.<br />
He said 34 new cases were reported across the province in 48 hours (10 <span class="adtext" id="adtext_2">Inpatient</span> and 24 OPD cases). <br />
The
 Dr further informed that so far 548 cases were detected in Hyderabad, 
nine in Jamshoro, six in Thatta, four in Sukkur, three Shikarpur, two 
each in Kambar, Sanghar, Dadu, Larkana and Kashmore; and one eachi n 
Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Umerkot 
since January 2013.     </div>

RAWALPINDI - Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh 
Rasheed said there was a deep conspiracy behind this unfortunate 
incidence, adding that no local person was involved in the incident.<br />
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he blamed 
administration’s incompetence and negligence for the violence, which 
killed 10 people and left scores of others wounded. Sheikh also called 
for a judicial probe into Friday’s sectarian violence in Rawalpindi.<br />
He urged the ruling party to consider Rawalpindi its own city and come forward to restore calm in the garrison city.<br />
No such incident even happened in a 100-year history of Rawalpindi, 
he said, adding that market was set on fire from behind. The AML chief 
said that those involved in the violence were not locals.<br />
On Friday, the clashes between two rival groups started when aerial 
firing triggered a stampede when Ashura procession was passing through 
Fawara Chowk.<br />
Some unidentified persons pelted stones and also torched a cloth 
market nearby. The angry mob also stopped fire brigade vehicles to reach
 the spot. The fire engulfed more than 100 shops in cloth market while 
operation was underway to control it.</div>

All my friends. Settle down let me talk, I will get more and more emotional (crowd gets <span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">louder</span> and louder as he composes himself).<br />

My <span class="adtext" id="adtext_5">life</span>, between 22 yards 
for 24 years, it is hard to believe that that wonderful journey has come
 to an end, but I would like to take this opportunity to thank people 
who have played an important role in my life. Also, for the first time 
in my life I am carrying this list, to remember all the names in case I 
forget someone. I hope you understand. It s getting a little bit 
difficult to talk but I will manage.<br />

The most important person in my life, and I have missed him a lot 
since 1999 when he passed away, my father. Without his guidance, I don t
 think I would have been standing here in front of you. He gave me 
freedom at the age of 11, and told me that I should]chase my dreams, but
 make sure you do not find short cuts.<br />

The path might be difficult, but don t give up, and I have simply 
followed his instructions. Above all, he told me to be a nice human 
being, which I will continue to do and try my best. Every time I have 
done something special [and] showed my bat, it was for my father.<br />

My mother, I don t know how she dealt with such a naughty child like 
me. I was not easy to manage. She must be extremely patient. For a 
mother, the most important thing is that her child remains safe and 
healthy and fit. T<br />

hat was what she was most bothered and worried about. She took care 
of me for the last 24 years that I have played for India, but even 
before that she started praying for me the day I started playing 
cricket. She just prayed and prayed and I think her prayers and 
blessings have given me the strength to go out and perform, so a big 
thank you to my mother for all the sacrifices.<br />

In my school days, for four years, I stayed with my uncle and aunt 
because my school was quite far from my home, and they treated me like 
their son. My aunt, after having had a hard day s play, I would be half 
asleep and she would be feeding me food so I could go again and play 
tomorrow. I can t forget these moments. I am like their son and I am 
glad it has continued to be the same way.<br />

My eldest brother, Nitin, and his family, have always encouraged me. 
My eldest brother doesn t like to talk much, but the one thing he always
 told me is that whatever you do, I know you will always give it 100%, 
and that I have full faith and confidence in you.<br />

His encouragement meant a lot to me. My sister, Savita, and her 
family, was no different. The first cricket bat of my life was presented
 to me by my sister. It was a Kashmir willow bat. But that is where the 
journey began. She is one of those many who still continue to fast when I
 bat, so thank you very much.<br />

Ajit, my brother, now what do I talk about him? I don t know. We have
 lived this dream together. He was the one who sacrificed his career for
 my cricket. He spotted the spark in me.<br />

And it all started from the age of 11 when he took me to Archrekar 
sir, my coach, and from there on my life changed. You will find this 
hard to believe but even last night he called to discuss my dismissal, 
knowing that there was a remote chance of batting again, but just the 
habit we have developed, the rapport we have developed, since my birth, 
has continued and it will continue. Maybe when I m not playing cricket 
we will still be discussing technique.<br />

Various things we agreed upon, my technique, and so many technical 
things which I didn t agree with him, we have had arguments and 
disagreements, but when I look back at all these things in my life, I 
would have been a lesser cricketer.<br />

The most beautiful thing happened to me in 1990 when I met my wife, 
Anjali. Those were special years and it has continued and will always 
continue that way. I know Anjali, being a doctor; there was a wonderful 
career in front of her. When we decided to have a family, Anjali took 
the initiative to step back and say that  you continue with your cricket
 and I will take the responsibility of the family .<br />

Without that, I don t think I would have been able to play cricket 
freely and without stress. Thanks for bearing with all my fuss and all 
my frustrations, and all sorts of rubbish that I have spoken. Thanks for
 bearing with me and always staying by my side through all the ups and 
downs. You are the best partnership I ve had in my life.<br />

Then, the two precious diamonds of my life, Sara and Arjun. They have
 already grown up. My daughter is 16, my son is 14. Time has flown by. I
 wanted to spend so much time with them on special occasions like their 
birthdays, their annual days, their sports day, going on holidays, 
whatever. I have missed out on all those things.<br />

Thanks for your understanding. Both of you have been so, so special 
to me you cannot imagine. I promise you [that] for 14 and 16 years I 
have not spent enough time with both of you, but the next 16 years or 
even beyond that, everything is for you.<br />

My in-laws, Anand Mehta and Annabelle, both have been so, so 
supportive [and] loving and caring. I have discussed on various things 
in life, generally with them, and have taken their advice. You know, 
it s so important to have a strong family who is always with you and who
 are guiding you. Before you start clapping, the most important thing 
they did was allowing me to marry Anjali, so thank you very much.<br />

In the last 24 years that I have played for India I have made new 
friends, and before that I have had friends from my childhood. They have
 all had a terrific contribution. As and when I have called them to come
 and bowl to me at the nets, they have left their work aside to come and
 help me. Be it joining me on holidays and having discussions with me on
 cricket, or how I was a little stressed and wanting to find a solution 
so I can perform better.<br />

The memories you have left with me will always be with me forever and
 ever, especially "Sachin, Sachin" which will reverberate in my ears 
till I stop breathing<br />

All those moments my friends were with me. Even for when I was injured, I
 would wake up in the morning because I couldn t sleep and thought that 
my career was over because of injuries, that is when my friends have 
woken up at 3 o clock in the morning to drive with me and make me 
believe that my career was not over. Life would be incomplete without 
all those friends. Thanks for being there for me.<br />

My cricket career started when I was 11. The turning point of my 
career was when my brother (Ajit) took me to Achrekar sir. I was 
extremely delighted to see him up in the stands. Normally he sits in 
front of the television and he watches all the games that I play. When I
 was 11/12, those were the days when I used to hop back on his scooter 
and play a couple of practice matches a day.<br />

he first half the innings I would be batting at Shivaji Park, the 
second half, at some other match in Azad Maidan. He would take me all 
over Mumbai to make sure I got match practice.<br />

On a lighter note, in the last 29 years, sir has never ever said 
 well played  to me because he thought I would get complacent and I 
would stop working hard. Maybe he can push his luck and wish me now, 
well done on my career, because there are no more matches, sir, in my 
life. I will be witnessing cricket, and cricket will always stay in my 
heart, but you have had an immense contribution in my life, so thank you
 very much.<br />

My cricket for Mumbai started right here on this ground, the Mumbai 
Cricket Association (MCA), which is so dear to me. I remember landing 
from New Zealand at four o clock in the morning, and turning up for a 
game here at eight o clock just because I wanted to be a part of Mumbai 
cricket, and not that somebody forced me. That was for the love of 
Mumbai cricket, and thank you very much. The president is here so thank 
you very much, along with your team, for taking care of me and looking 
after my cricket.<br />

The dream was obviously to play for India, and that is where my 
association with BCCI started. BCCI was fantastic, right from my debut 
they believed in my ability and selecting me into the squad at the age 
of 16 was a big step, so thanks to all the selectors for having faith in
 me and the BCCI for giving me the freedom to express myself out in the 
middle.<br />

Things would have been different if you had not been behind me, and I
 really appreciate your support. Especially when I was injured, you were
 right with me and making sure that all the treatments were taken care 
of, and that I got fit and fine and playing [right] back for India.<br />

The journey has been special, the last 24 years, I have played with 
many senior cricketers, and even before that there were many senior 
cricketers with whom I watched on television. They inspired me to play 
cricket, and to play in the right way. Thanks to all those senior 
cricketers, and unfortunately I have not been able to play with them, 
but I have high regards for all their achievements and all their 
contributions.<br />

We see it on the mega-screen, Rahul, Laxman, Sourav, and Anil, who is
 not here, and my team-mates right here in front me. You are like my 
family away from home. I have had some wonderful times with you. It is 
going to be difficult to not be part of the dressing room, sharing those
 special moments. All the coaches for their guidance, it has been 
special for me.<br />

I know when MS Dhoni presented me the 200th Test match cap on day one
 morning. I had a brief message for the team. I would like to repeat 
that. I just feel that all of us are so, so fortunate and proud to be 
part of the Indian cricket team and serving the nation.<br />

Knowing all of you guys, I know you will continue to serve the nation
 in the right spirit and right values. I believe we have been the lucky 
ones to be chosen by the Almighty to serve this sport. Each generation 
gets this opportunity to take care of this sport and serve it to the 
best of our ability. I have full faith in you to continue to serve the 
nation in the right spirit and to the best of your ability, to bring all

I would be failing in my duties if I did not thank all the doctors, the 
physios, the trainers, who have put this difficult body together to go 
back on the field and be able to play. The amount of injuries that I 
have had in my career, I don t know how you have managed to keep me fit,
 but without your special efforts, it would never have happened. The 
doctors have met me at weird hours. I mean I have called them from 
Mumbai to Chennai, Mumbai to Delhi, I mean wherever. They have just 
taken the next flight and left their work and families to be with me, 
which has allowed me to play. So a big thank you to all three of you for
 keeping me in good shape.<br />

My dear friend, late Mark Mascarenhas, my first manager. We 
unfortunately lost him in a car accident in 2001, but he was such a 
well-wisher of cricket, my cricket, and especially Indian cricket. He 
was so passionate. He understood what it takes to represent a nation and
 gave me all the space to go out and express myself, and never 
pressurized me to do this ad or promotion or whatever the sponsors 
demanded. He took care of that and today I miss him, so thank you Mark 
for all your contribution.<br />

My current management team, WSG, for repeating what Mark has done, 
because when I signed the contract I exactly told them what I want from 
them, and what it requires to represent me. They have done that and 
respected that.<br />

Someone who has worked closely with me for 14 years is my manager, 
Vinod Nayudu. He is more like my family and all the sacrifices, spending
 time away from his family for my work, has been special, so big thank 
you to his family as well for giving up so much time for my work with 
Vinod.<br />

In my school days, when I performed well, the media backed me a lot. 
They continue to do that till this morning. Thank you so much to the 
media for supporting and appreciating my performances. It surely had a 
positive effect on me. Thank you so much to all the photographers as 
well for those wonderfully captured moments that will stay with me for 
the rest of my life, so a big thank you to all the photographers.<br />

I know my speech is getting a bit too long (crowd roars), but this is

MUMBAI, India (AP) - Cricket fans across the globe revered him. 
Teammates in India s test and World Cup-winning squads were in awe of 
him.<br />

<span class="adtext" id="adtext_2">Sachin Tendulkar</span> compiled 
more runs and posted more centuries in international cricket than 
anyone, and was the greatest batsman of his generation. He has been 
compared with the previous incomparable Sir Donald Bradman, the 
Australian batsman who averaged almost 100 per innings in a long career 
punctuated by World War II.<br />

Tendulkar s near celestial status meant that <span class="adtext" id="adtext_8">his</span> dismissal for 74 in his last innings at the age of 40 and in his 200th <span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">test match</span> silenced a packed and boisterous crowd at Wankhede Stadium.<br />

But only for a few seconds. Really, they just wanted to see more. He 
walked off, with raised bat, to thunderous applause and chants of 
"Sa-chin, Sa-chin."<br />

He did not get a <span class="adtext" id="adtext_4">second chance</span>
 to claim a 101st international century, as the test against the West 
Indies was wrapped up on Saturday, with India winning without the need 
to bat a second time.<br />

Tendulkar s last day featured a cameo appearance bowling for a couple
 of overs, and a guard of honor from teammates as he walked from the 
field for the last time.<br />

The insatiable appetite for runs was only part of Tendulkar s aura.<br />

He ll be remembered around the cricket world for the numerous batting records he set during a glittering 24-year <span class="adtext" id="adtext_3">international career</span>, but he has also set a high benchmark of work ethics for others to follow.<br />

"He has guided youngsters very well, showed them how to lead life 
after you become successful, and at the same time how you re supposed to
 prepare," India captain <span class="adtext" id="adtext_1">Mahendra Singh Dhoni</span> said. "He s been fantastic and we ve learnt a lot from him."<br />

By the time of his retirement he had played a significant role in developing a dynamic, unified Indian squad.<br />

"The standards he has set have been benchmarks for us," Yuvraj Singh 
said. "Whether he gets a 100 or no runs, he will hit the same number of 
balls (in the nets), remain humble.<br />

"Everybody talks about his records, but the standard he set off the field was incredible - how to carry yourself off the field."<br />

With 15,921 runs in 200 tests and 18,426 in 463 one-dayers, Tendulkar has ended all comparisons with batsmen other than Bradman.<br />

Among his other prominent milestones include becoming the first man 
to score a double-century in limited-overs internationals (200 not out 
vs South Africa at Gwalior in 2010) and the first to reach 100 
international centuries.<br />

Tendulkar was always known for his compact defense, immaculate drives
 and cunning cuts but he later added the uppercut and paddle-sweep to 
his repertoire and reaped plenty of runs from those.<br />

His 51 centuries in tests and 49 in ODIs are also records and winning the 2011 World Cup was the proverbial icing on the cake.<br />

"Winning the World Cup was a lifelong ambition and it was a matter of
 great honor that my teammates wanted to do it for me," Tendulkar said 
after the victory on his home ground of Wankhede Stadium, which was also
 the venue of his 200th and last test.<br />

Memories of an emotional Tendulkar being carried around the ground 
during the victory lap in 2011 will linger long in the minds of Indian 
fans.<br />

The "Little Master" learnt early how to carry the weight of 
expectations as he became the youngest Indian to debut in international 
cricket, playing both tests and limited-overs internationals at the age 
of 16 during a tour of Pakistan in 1989.<br />

Tendulkar had a penchant for performing well against Australia as an 
intense cricket rivalry between the two nations developed over his <span class="adtext" id="adtext_7">career</span>.
 Among the standouts: his 114 on a fiery test pitch at Perth in 1991-92 
when he was still in his teens; a 241 not out at Sydney in a rare series
 drawn in Australia in 2003-04; and 155 not out in the Chennai test of 
1997-98.<br />

Consequently, some of his best rivalries also came against Australian
 bowling greats Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, both of whom have been 
liberal in their praise of Tendulkar after their retirement.<br />

Ever since his retirement from limited-overs cricket, the questions 
about when he d bring his international cricket career to an end have 
abounded. At 40, he decided the two-test series against the <span class="adtext" id="adtext_5">West Indies</span> would be his last international games, setting the stage for a festival and general celebration across India.<br />

Tendulkar had his share of injuries, mainly to the back and elbow, 
but he was never a liability to the team and could outplay teammates and
 rivals half his age with his fast running between the wickets and agile
 fielding.<br />

He was also a useful bowler who could either bowl "seam-up" or legspin.<br />

A low period was during 2004-2005 when he once went for 17 innings 
without a single test half-century, but that was the exception rather 
than the rule in a glorious career in which he was often heralded as a 
"God of cricket."<br />

"He has had an absolutely delightful career and changed the outlook 
of parents and how they encourage their children to play the game," Dev 
said about the impact Tendulkar has had on Indian society. "People 
started saying  You don t need to become an engineer or doctor, that you
 could (now) become a cricketer. " </div>

KARACHI  – According to details, clashes broke out 
between rival gang war accused in Lyari on Friday to seize control of

LAHORE – Mobile phone service has been restored in several cities.<br />

Earlier, the government had decided to suspend cellular service 
suspended in several cities on 9th and 10th Muharram to avert any 
untoward incident.<br />

According to reports, the security agencies had informed the federal 
interior ministry that there was a potential threat that terrorists 
could target Ashura processions on 9th and 10th Muharram.<br />

On November 12, the Sindh and Balochistan governments had requested 
the federal interior ministry to suspend mobile phone services for two 
days.<br />

The government banned pillion riding during the next two days besides
 jamming mobile phone services to foil nefarious designs of the 
anti-state elements and terrorists.<br />

Meanwhile, the law enforcing agencies have been put on high alert to deal with any eventuality.</div>

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Thirty four new cases of dengue were reported from the city hospitals of Punjab during the last 24 hours.<br />

With new cases, the total number of dengue affected persons across Punjab has mounted to 1832.<br />

Meanwhile, the citizens have expressed their concern over the surge 
in dengue virus and treatment facilities at government-run hospitals 
across the province.<br />

They urged the provincial government and health authorities for 
taking on ground steps to control the disease instead of making tall 
claims and issuing statements to satisfy the masses.<br />

Dengue usually starts with fever within four to seven days of the 
mosquito bite. The patient would have flu-like high fever, accompanied 
by muscular and joint pains.<br />

KARACHI - The Sindh government has extended ban on 
pillion riding for two more days till Sunday, said a statement issued by
 the provincial government.<br />
<br />
The ban was imposed by the Sindh Home Department as part of security 
arrangements for the 9th and 10th Muharram. However it decided to intact
 the ban for two more days over security concerns.
<br />
A high-level meeting of the top security officials was held in 
Karachi after conclusion of Muharram 10 processions on Friday to ponder 
over security arrangements and ban on pillion riding.<br />

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the performance of security 
men and decided to continue ban on pillion riding for two more days till
 end of the Soyem.<br />

The Chief Secretary of Sindh issued notification, after the meeting, of two-day extension of pillion riding ban in the province.<br />

The 24 hour curfew has been imposed within the limits of 19 
Rawalpindi police stations. The curfew will also extend to Rawal Town 
and Potohar Town.<br />
Rawalpindi city police and a large number of army troops are now 
patrolling various areas in the city. Meanwhile, cellular services will 
remain suspended in the city.<br />
According to reports, containers are being also placed in Faizabad to
 block Murree Road while security has been tightened at all worship 
places of the city. Emergency has also been declared in all hospitals. <br />
The tragedy occurred as mob turned against the police in the procession passing through Raja Bazaar in Pindi on Friday.<br />
As Shia Muslims massed to mourn, a group of miscreants at 3:00pm 
reportedly snatched guns from police personnel installed in the area for
 security, and opened fire.<br />
As panic spread, unknown people set a portion of the cloth market in Raja Bazaar on fire.<br />
The situation soon got out of hand and the army was called in to control the situation.<br />
“The clashes started when a sermon was being delivered from a Sunni 
mosque on the way of the procession route. The infuriated Shias attacked
 the mosque and also put a cloth market at fire,” police official Waseem
 Ahmed claimed.<br />
A large contingent of fire brigades, rescue teams and as many as six army companies were summoned to control the situation.<br />

DUBAI (AFP) - South Africa sparked another Pakistan batting collapse 
to win the second Twenty20 international by six runs in Dubai on Friday,
 taking the two-match series 2-0.<br />

It was another batting failure for Pakistan, who, chasing 151, were 
cruising along nicely at 101-3 in the 14th over before being restricted 
to 144-9 in their 20 overs.<br />

Paceman Wayne Parnell took 3-25 while leg-spinner Imran Tahir claimed
 2-21 and spearhead Dale Steyn finished with 2-20 to rock Pakistan who 
lost seven wickets in the space of 43 runs.<br />

Sohaib Maqsood top-scored with 37 while Shahid Afridi (14) tried valiantly but failed in the end.<br />

Pakistan lost Ahmed Shehzad (21) and Mohammad Hafeez (nought) in 
quick succession but Maqsood carried on in style, hitting two boundaries
 and a six off 26 balls before Pakistan lost three wickets at 112.<br />

Tahir bowled Shoaib Malik (15)and Abdul Razzaq (nought) off 
successive deliveries while Quinton de Kock held a smart catch off 
Parnell to dismiss Maqsood as Pakistan slump from 112-4 to 112-7.<br />

South Africa won the first match by nine wickets on Wednesday.<br />

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis hailed his team s comeback.<br />

"It s a great achievement by the team. We played really well under 
pressure and Pakistan were in a position to win but we pulled it back 
remarkably," said Du Plessis.<br />

"We said we wanted to come here and win 2-0 and we did that. As a 
bowling unit we have certainly grown a lot over the last couple of 
months. Credit to them for the time and effort they have put into it. 
There is always room for improvement.<br />

"Nice to be back in South Africa and looking forward to another 
series against Pakistan. We will try to beat them again 2-0," said Du 
Plessis of the coming two T20 and three one-day series in South Africa 
between November 20-30.<br />

Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez bemoaned his team s inability to see out matches.<br />

"I think this is the sequence of the (one-day) series," said Hafeez of Pakistan s 4-1 loss.<br />

"Not finishing games very well. When we needed to play normal 
cricket, we didn t handle the pressure. Credit goes to South Africa for 
bowling in the right areas. Every time we thought we were there, we 
couldn t finish it."<br />

South Africa rode on Du Plessis s 48-ball 58 not out and a sedate 
41-ball 48 by Hashim Amla, who lifted the innings during their 78-run 
second wicket stand after they won the toss and batted.<br />

De Kock chipped in with a quickfire 19-ball 30, studded with six boundaries to give his team a rapid start.<br />

Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal pulled things back for Pakistan by dismissing De Kock and Amla.<br />

Amla hit two sixes and three boundaries before he holed out on Ajmal.<br />

Du Plessis held one end intact, hitting three sixes and one boundary 
to lift South Africa to their highest Twenty20 total against Pakistan, 
beating the 142-9 they made at Nottingham in 2009.<br />

MOSCOW (AFP) - Russia is offering to sell Egypt modern helicopters and <span class="adtext" id="adtext_2">air defence</span>
 systems in a landmark deal reportedly worth $2 billion that would mark a
 revival of large-scale military cooperation, a Russian official said 
Friday.<br />

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defence Minister Sergei 
Shoigu visited Egypt on Thursday seeking lucrative contracts with the 
government after the ousting of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.<br />

Lavrov confirmed that military collaboration was discussed in talks 
between Shoigu and his Egyptian counterpart General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi
 but gave no further details.<br />

However Mikhail Zavaly, a senior official with Russia's arms export 
agency Rosoboronexport who will lead its delegation at the upcoming 
Dubai air show, confirmed Russia <span class="adtext" id="adtext_1">wanted to sell</span> military hardware to Egypt.<br />

"Now we are offering Egypt modern helicopters, air defence equipment and the modernisation of previously purchased <span class="adtext" id="adtext_4">military equipment</span>," he told the RIA Novosti <span class="adtext" id="adtext_3">news agency</span>.<br />

"The word is now with our partners," he added.<br />

He did not give further details but Russian daily Vedomosti said 
negotiations were ongoing about the sale of MiG-29M/M2 fighter jets, low
 <span class="adtext" id="adtext_7">range air</span> <span class="adtext" id="adtext_6">defence systems</span> and Kornet anti-tank rockets.<br />

Citing Russian defence sources, Vedomosti said the deals were worth 
more than $2 billion and could be financed by Saudi Arabia, which was 
instrumental in the removal of Morsi.<br />

The Soviet Union was the main supplier of arms to Egypt in the 1960s 
and early 1970s but cooperation declined after the peace treaty with 
Israel when Cairo began to enjoy generous US aid.<br />

However Washington suspended some of its military aid to Cairo after 
Morsi's ousting and Zavaly confirmed that Moscow had sensed an 
opportunity.<br />

"There is never a vacuum on the international arms market. If one supplier goes away, then another one appears," he told <span class="adtext" id="adtext_8">RIA Novosti</span>.</div>
